Why do I play volleyball?

Growing up, I never got into anything athletic whether playing sports or going to the gym. It wasn’t until high school I discovered volleyball with my friends. I had thought that volleyball was an all-female sport, but then I witnessed some of my male friends playing for a club team. I began to play at open gyms and started to enjoy the sport every day. Volleyball is great to stay active and relieve some stress. I enjoy the sport because it makes me better mentally and physically.

Who is one volleyball player (athlete) that you are inspired by and why?

I don’t think that I have a particular volleyball player that inspires me, but I enjoy watching advanced players and learning from them. The reason that I enjoy watching them is seeing how they play and their skills, they inspire and motivate me to improve my play even more!

Why do you coach? What excites you about coaching?

I coach because I want to help the players to improve, learn and become leaders. I want to teach them and inspire them, but at the same time I know that I will be learning a lot from them and be inspired by them as well.

What do you value most in your players?

I value hard work, determination and grit. I value players that no matter how hard and frustrating it gets they are willing to brush it off and keep trying no matter what.

What is your most embarrassing volleyball moment?

My most embarrassing volleyball moment was when I was playing with my team at open gym, I was setting and accidentally set the ball to the other side of the net. It was a perfect height for the middle hitter on the other team and when he hit the ball it hit me on the top of my head. It was a funny and embarrassing moment.
