Who is one volleyball player (athlete) that you are inspired by and why?

I don’t have one particular person that I’m inspired by but I do look up to people who are of higher level than me when I’m playing with friends, at open gyms and tournaments. The way they understand and utilize the mechanics of volleyball inspires me to evolve into a better player day by day.

Why do you play volleyball?

I play volleyball because it is a coed sport that all people can jump in and have solid fun. From playing basketball as my main sport, transitioning to volleyball was easy to pick up. It is my new found passion. Also since playing volleyball, I’m finally able to grab onto a basketball rim! .

Why do you coach? What excites you about coaching?

I coach not to help and improve other people’s skills, but to also help myself understand the sport fundamentally and mechanically. There’s so many intricate details into volleyball and it brings me joy to see people understand something they didn’t know before.

What do you value most in your players?

What I value most in a player is having grit. There are times where you can’t get something right and it will lead to frustration and/or being depressed. Whether it’s passing a ball incorrectly or not being able to hit a serve over the net, I value a players thrive to not stay down and give up. Things don’t work magically overnight so if my players can have fortitude and resolve to achieve goals, that will also build strength in character.

What is your most embarrassing volleyball moment?

My most embarrassing volleyball moment was probably when I was going for a spike playing outside hitter. In mid-air trying to spike the ball, I totally missed the ball completely. Felt like my hand had a huge hole in it. You can say the other team got the point.
